NEW YORK, USA, Sep 19 – The much-anticipated Goalkeepers event is making its return to the vibrant city of New York on September 19 and 20, perfectly timed alongside the 78th UN General Assembly.
This year, the gathering offers a frank assessment of the current state of the world, where progress toward achieving the Global Goals has faced hurdles and, in some respects, regression. Yet, it also extends an invitation to all participants to envision a world radiating with optimism and promise.
Goalkeepers is dedicated to expediting advancements in the Global Goals by leveraging compelling narratives, data-driven insights, and strategic partnerships. It serves as a platform to spotlight the achievements thus far and assemble a diverse cadre of leaders committed to addressing humanity’s most formidable challenges.
Ahead of this annual event, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation released a poignant message in the Goalkeepers 2023 report: “If there’s one thing you take away from this report, we hope it’s hope itself—the belief that the world can save the lives of 1,000 more mothers and babies every day through the end of the decade.”

“But you should also know: It’s not a done deal. Those lives will be saved only if all mothers and babies have access to both quality health care services and the innovations we wrote about in this report,” the report states.
Adding, “We need policy changes, political will, more investment into women’s health, and healthcare workers—including midwives. We need to listen to what women want and ensure that women have a say in their own healthcare. And ultimately, we need to commit together that we no longer accept preventable deaths of mothers and babies around the world.”
The world, the report states, has come so far so quickly in our understanding of how to save the most fragile lives. Together, we can translate that knowledge into tangible progress.”
